The Kenhtѐke Language and Cultural Center, located at 39 Salmon River Road in Shannonville, Ontario, within the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory, underwent a significant construction phase aimed at enhancing its infrastructure.
The project, managed by Niacon as the General Contractor and guided by Brook McIlroy as the Consultant, involved key structural and finishing upgrades. These included the installation of an expansion board, rigid insulation, and a vapour barrier, followed by the installation of WWM supported by slab bolsters.
The work culminated in the pouring of a 100mm slab-on-grade and frost slabs, with a power trowel and broom finish.
Additionally, slab sawcutting and the application of a curing compound sealant were completed to ensure durability and longevity. The Center, owned by Tsi Tyonnheht Onkwawen , now stands as a strengthened and enhanced facility supporting the preservation and promotion of the Mohawk language and culture.
